Some are given a choice.
Positive changes in the person after return to this life (e.g., more loving, less fear).

Do Afterlife Reports Qualify As Fairly Scientific Evidence?

In some corners of science any statistical analysis of afterlife reports should be viewed skepticism. For example they would object that the data are others' interpretations of words written by others.

The reports are generally independent because they have been made by persons of all ages, and who are generally unknown to one another
Most reports are randomly accumulated, e.g., on websites, hospital records
Often an afterlife experience follows a random event such as an accident
The large number of reports is of statistical benefit
Children's reports have added value because they are naïve in a scientific sense
There are many reports made by hospital patients who had observed surgical operations on themselves while unconscious on the operating table, these reports being later verified by hospital staff, family members, et al.
